Whitley Bay Ice Rink is a privately
owned rink having been owned by the same family for well over 40 years.
It is not a new facility but it is widely used by the community at
large. Over the years we have had successful ice skaters at the club who have gone on to International competitions both at Amateur and Professional level, such as Joanne Conway, Lorna Brown and Allan Williamson. The success continues with David Richardson as the British Junior Champion 2007 who, together with Matthew Parr represented this country in both National and International Events as part of the British senior Squad. Whitley Bay Ice Skating Club have a large, enthusiastic group of patch skaters, from pre-novice right through to gold standard. Early morning patch is normal at Whitley Bay, and by 6:30am the ice is usually quite busy. Most of our skaters travel to open competitions across the UK to compete and we have kids who have qualified for the British Novices, Primary and Junior National Series skaters. We have many 'in rink' competitions for all local skaters, these consist of 3 quarterly competitions, a Novelty fun competition and a larger Annual competition. However, as it is a private rink, WBISC have to fund competitions independently and without sponsors are unable to afford the cost of staging an Open competition. |
